The Franklin Kiermyer quartet with guests Sam Rivers and Eric Person, honor the world traditions of spiritual music as bridges between ensemble pieces (quartet to sextet). Kiermyer plays with very old recordings of indigenous spiritual music as interludes. These short pieces gathered from diverse geographies like the Greek Black Sea area (Pontic Bagpipes), the Cameroon rain forest (the Baka people), and the Arizona desert (the Papago) have been influential in his development.
